Most wooden barrels for wine-making are either made of French oak or from American white oak. Oak wood is strong and resilient. Because of its resilient feature, the wood is bendable, and therefore, can be shaped into a barrel. Certain full-bodied, complex reds and whites benefit from storage and ageing in wooden barrels.
