The bald eagle is the only eagle unique to North America. The founding fathers of America selected the bald eagle as the emblem of the nation, symbolising fierce beauty, proud independence, strength and freedom. It has been the national emblem of the USA since 1872. An eagle in flight can reputedly sight a rabbit two miles away.
