Opened in 1894, it was severely damaged by fire in 1933. After WWII the building fell into disuse. Following German reunification in 1990 it underwent reconstruction. After its completion in 1999, it once again became the meeting place of the German parliament. The term Reichstag has not been used by German parliaments since World War II.
