Vatnajokull glacier is the largest glacier in Iceland and Europe. Covering 8% of Iceland's land mass it is home to huge glacial rivers, stunning canyons, beautiful lagoons and impressive waterfalls. Vatnajökull has a surface area of approximately 8,100 square kilometres (3127 square miles). In parts, it is a kilometre deep (over three thousand feet).
